SUMMARY
Seedsight is a deep-tech AgTech company that combines patented optical sensing technology with proprietary AI to deliver real-time grain quality, safety, and traceability analysis for millers and traders. Our platform generates a unique digital fingerprint of cereal grain samples in under 30 seconds, analysing over 100 biophysical parameters per scan at under €2 per test - up to 100x cheaper than conventional lab methods.
By replacing slow, expensive laboratory testing with on-site intelligence, Seedsight enables clients to detect contaminants, predict flour extraction rates before milling, and make faster, data-driven procurement decisions. For a mid-to-large milling company, this translates into annual profit gains of up to €31.1M and screening cost reductions of up to €17.4M.
PROBLEM
The cereal industry relies on slow, expensive laboratory testing that takes up to 6-8 days per batch to deliver analysis results - forcing millers and traders to make critical procurement and production decisions with incomplete data. This creates three compounding problems.
First, milling companies lose up to 15% of flour extraction efficiency during grain processing, resulting in an estimated 5% annual profit loss. Second, inadequate screening fails to detect contaminants such as mycotoxins, which are present in 29% of traded wheat and pose serious food safety and public health risks. Third, the high cost of conventional testing (around €300 per test) makes systematic, frequent quality control economically unviable for most operators.
The result is an entire industry operating reactively, with significant financial losses, food waste, and food safety risks that Seedsight's real-time grain intelligence is built to prevent.
SOLUTION
Seedsight combines patented optical sensing hardware with proprietary AI software to deliver real-time grain quality analysis directly at industrial intake points. A fibre-optic probe is dipped into an aqueous cereal solution and completes a full scan in under 30 seconds, generating over 100 biophysical parameters per sample, representing under €2 per test, up to 100x cheaper than conventional laboratory methods.
The platform is organised around four analytical libraries: contaminant detection, geographical traceability, milling productivity prediction, and flour quality assessment. Clients subscribe to one or more libraries depending on their operational needs, with hardware provided at no upfront cost.
The impact is measurable across three dimensions.
- For industrial operators, Seedsight enables flour extraction rate optimisation of uo to 5%, translating into annual profit gains of up to €31.1M and screening cost reductions of up to €17.4M for a mid-to-large milling company.
- For the food system, replacing slow lab testing with on-site real-time screening reduces the risk of contaminated grain entering the supply chain. With 29% of traded wheat containing mycotoxins, earlier and more accurate detection has direct implications for public health.
- For the planet, maximising flour yield from existing grain reduces food waste and the associated carbon footprint. At scale, Seedsight's technology can generate an additional 30,000 to 50,000 tons of flour per million tons produced, enough to support food supply for an additional 350 million people annually.
