As a cradle of innovation, we believe that our actions will encourage our community to be more sustainable. Thus, UPTEC is aligning its activities with the ESG principles —Environment, Social, and Governance—and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations.

Goal 5.5
UPTEC is committed to gender equality, ensuring women’s participation in management decisions and promoting equal opportunities for women to start and grow businesses.

Decent work and economic growth
GOAL 8.2
Promoting entrepreneurship, particularly knowledge-intensive projects, has been one of UPTEC’s main priorities. Our entrepreneurs combine creativity, technology and innovation to create value-added businesses, thereby contributing to the sustainable economic growth of our region and country.

Industry, innovation and infrasctructure
GOAL 9.5
UPTEC actively contributes to fostering innovation and the creation of startups, as well as to building bridges between research and development and the industrial sectors. We therefore aim to create the ideal entrepreneurial environment for the creation of a new economic paradigm that is more transparent, ethical and sustainable.

Reduced inequalities
GOAL 10.2
UPTEC promotes diversity and inclusion by fostering a multicultural community where everyone has equal opportunities and there is no place for discrimination of any kind. Furthermore, UPTEC is helping to reduce inequalities and promote the social integration of all through collaboration with local communities and civil society organisations.

Responsible consumption and production
GOAL 12.3
With the aim of encouraging our community to adopt responsible consumption habits, UPTEC has been collaborating on initiatives that promote the reduction of food waste and loss throughout the production and supply chains.
- Implementation of ‘Dose Certa’, a LIPOR project tackling food waste
- Support to food distribution initiatives by local producers, organised by AMAP
GOAL 12.5
Waste can be given a life, which is why UPTEC promotes the prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse of materials.
- Collection of electrical and electronic waste for recycling or repair, in partnership with ERP Portugal and Recycle Geeks
- Provision of recycling bins in all offices and communal areas of every hub, in collaboration with LIPOR

Working in partnership enables us to successfully tackle global challenges relating to sustainable development. As such, UPTEC is a member of a number of organisations and networks committed to sustainability, and works closely with partners across various sectors to share knowledge and resources.
