PROBLEM
Higher education institutions struggle with student disengagement and dropout, resulting in poor student outcomes and significant financial losses. Approximately 24% of first-time students and 40% of U.S. undergraduate students fail to complete their degrees, contributing to an estimated $16.5 billion in lost annual tuition revenue.
Many colleges lack effective tools to consistently motivate students, reinforce positive academic behaviors, and identify early signs of disengagement before students drop out. Existing retention systems are often reactive, fragmented, or focused only on academic performance rather than daily student behavior and engagement habits.
Our platform addresses this gap by helping colleges proactively improve student engagement and retention through goal-setting, positive reinforcement, and behavioral insights that identify at-risk students earlier and support timely intervention.
SOLUTION
Our platform helps colleges improve student engagement and retention by combining behavioral motivation, academic goal-setting, and retention intelligence. Students set academic goals connected to coursework, quizzes, attendance, or study habits, which can be validated by professors or the platform system. When goals are completed, students earn real-world rewards such as gift cards, discounts, and other incentives that reinforce positive academic behavior.
As students interact with the platform, colleges gain access to behavioral engagement data and actionable insights that help identify early signs of disengagement and at-risk students before dropout occurs. This enables institutions to take proactive interventions instead of relying only on reactive academic performance indicators.
The platform was tested in a real academic environment through a three-semester pilot with 154 students across five college classes in Portugal. The pilot achieved a 73% retention rate among active users and a 21% reward redemption rate, supported by positive student and faculty testimonials.
Beyond institutional validation, the platform also demonstrated strong student demand through an organically grown social media audience of over 11,000 followers and more than 2,000 students on a waitlist within four months. A new U.S. university pilot focused on freshman retention is now underway.
