Drones, Artificial Intelligence, macroalgae and climate innovation in BluAct’s final

The final of the fourth edition of BluAct, a programme designed to support the growth of blue economy startups, is on November 26 at 11:15 am and takes place at Matosinhos City Hall. Manuela Álvares, Matosinhos City Council‘s Councillor for the Environment and Energy Transition, and Maria Oliveira, Business Director of UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of U.Porto, will be present at the grand final.

An inventory management system using artificial intelligence (AI), an autonomous drone that detects floating garbage, a platform that optimizes the sustainable management of tourist destinations, a system for monitoring and intervening in marine species that uses AI to analyse behaviour and environmental conditions, a solution for reusing waste from the manufacture of surfboards, the use of macroalgae in organic farming and a solution for managing the climate impact of companies are some of the business ideas that will be competing in the grand final of BluAct 2024.

After the mentoring sessions to support the development of the business model and prepare for the public presentation of the projects, which take place on November 21 and 22, it’s the candidates’ turn to present their ideas to the judges on November 26.

The winner of BluAct will win 5,000 euros, a prize offered by INDAQUA Matosinhos, and free participation in the next edition of the UPTEC’s  School of Startups. In addition, the top three will have access to free incubation at UPTEC Mar for a year, while the project with the most significant impact on the canning industry will receive 2,500 euros from Conservas Portugal Norte.

BluAct is promoted by the Municipality of Matosinhos in partnership with UPTEC, INDAQUA, and Conservas Portugal Norte. The programme’s final session takes place on November 26 at 11:15 am. Registration is free.
