UPTEC’s XPO returns with exhibition and performance by Helder Duarte

XPO, an initiative that aims to explore the various aspects of the cultural and creative industries, is back at UPTEC Baixa, with an exhibition and performance by artist Helder Duarte.

The exhibition titled “Sem Margem”, which will open on 30 January at 5:30pm, takes a relaxed look at Helder Duarte’s learning of calligraphy as a self-taught artist.

In this exhibition, the artist intends to demonstrate how different paints, surfaces, brushes, pens – from the most basic wall paint to marker reffils, from paper to the reuse of industrial waste – can meet, mix and even challenge each other. “The result of this exhibition is a series of works that explore calligraphy in a personal way, with influences ranging from ancient manuscripts to the modern calligraphy of (…) Street Artists”, says Helder Duarte.

XPO: “Let it be consumed” performance

Discovery as a creative process will also be explored in a performance with participants from other expressions entitled “Let it be consumed”, which will take place on 1 February at UPTEC Baixa.  During this performance, created in partnership with the noise/doom duo Insolência, Helder Duarte seeks to show how different materials and areas challenge each other and make it possible to create a piece that will ultimately be deconstructed.

Admission to the opening of the exhibition “Sem Margem”, at 5:30pm on 30 January, is free, but registration is required here. The exhibition will be at the UPTEC Baixa building until 22 February. The performance “Let it be consumed” will start at 4:00pm on 1 February, in the UPTEC Baixa exhibition space, and entry is free with registration via this link.
