The first place went to Savearth, which has developed smart showers using artificial intelligence and sound recognition technology, allowing a plug-and-play device to be installed on any shower head in around one minute. This system monitors water consumption in real time, sending alerts when the recommended 35 litres per shower are exceeded, and awards points to guests for each eco-friendly shower, which can then be exchanged for hotel benefits, reducing water and energy consumption by up to 60%.
In second place was EcoWires, which developed a printing technology for sustainable flexible electronics, specifically applied to plastic-free smart packaging solutions. FutureTemp, which came third, helps companies reduce energy waste by automating existing air conditioning systems, without the need for replacements or electrical modifications.
The three winners had the opportunity to represent Portugal in the programme’s regional final, where they competed against Europe’s best cleantech projects, and also benefited from four months of incubation, media promotion interviews and access to a UPTEC acceleration programme. In addition, Savearth also won a trip to Vienna to take part in the ClimateLaunchpad Global Grand Final.
The national final took place in the Infante D. Henrique auditorium at APDL, in Matosinhos.
