SUMMARY

PelvicSense is an innovative surgical technology project focused on improving safety during minimally invasive surgery. It aims to develop an intelligent, modular system capable of providing surgeons with real-time objective feedback on tissue handling during laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
Current surgical instruments provide limited information regarding the impact of tissue manipulation. PelvicSense addresses this unmet need by combining advanced sensing and data analysis to support safer and more informed intraoperative decision-making.
Our value proposition is to provide objective real-time feedback on tissue safety, helping surgeons reduce inadvertent tissue injury, improve surgical precision and potentially decrease postoperative complications.
The platform is designed to be modular, scalable and compatible with existing surgical instruments, with potential applications across multiple surgical specialties. PelvicSense aims to contribute to the next generation of intelligent and data-driven surgery.

PROBLEM

Anastomotic dehiscence is the most dangerous, costly, and difficult-to-manage complication associated with anastomoses between hollow viscera in surgery.
PelvicSense aims to minimize this complication, as well as all costs associated with its management.

SOLUTION

PelvicSens is an intelligent intraoperative monitoring system designed to enhance the safety of tissue manipulation during minimally invasive surgery. It consists of a modular sleeve adaptable to laparoscopic or robotic graspers, integrating sensors capable of measuring grasping force, tissue perfusion, temperature, and bioimpedance in real time. The data are processed using sensor-fusion algorithms, including VORTEX and the Machado Tissue Safety Index (M-TSI), to estimate tissue stress and potential injury risk. The system aims to provide surgeons with objective real-time feedback and early warnings before mechanical damage or ischemia occurs, potentially reducing complications and improving surgical safety and reproducibility. PelvicSens is designed as a modular platform compatible with different surgical instruments and with potential applications across multiple surgical specialties.
