Fraunhofer Portugal’s mission is to develop and deliver applied research of direct utility to private and public enterprises, while providing a wide benefit to society. It materializes through AICOS, Fraunhofer Portugal Research Center for Assistive Information and Communication Solutions, located in Porto and created in 2009, through a partnership between the Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft), the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the University of Porto. With a team of over 80 hired researchers and a broad client portfolio ranging from healthcare, manufacturing, retail, agriculture or energy sectors, AICOS has consolidated competences in Human-Centred Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber-Physical systems, User Analysis in different environments, Computer Vision, Cognitive and Decision Support Systems or the Internet of Things (IoT) and has been focusing on Cognitive Connected Solutions, Accountable AI, Decentralised Health Technology, Digital Farming and Ageing with Data. Fraunhofer AICOS’track record has helped build a wide network of active partners, and established partnerships with over 150 organisations in 31 countries.
