Windcredible, a startup incubated at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, was one of the winners of Colmeia, the collaborative innovation programme developed by Galp and the Municipality of Matosinhos that aims to boost entrepreneurship and energy transition in the municipality.

The partnership project between Windcredible and ALADI – Lavrense Association for the Support of the Intellectually Handicapped was deserving of the 2nd prize, and guarantees funding of 15 thousand euros that will allow the installation of two Windcredible wind turbines in the solidarity institution based in Lavra.

For Windcredible’s CEO, Filipe Fernandes, this pilot project is fundamental for the development of the startup for several reasons. “With this joint pilot between Galp and CM Matosinhos, we can test our product in a hybrid and distributed renewable energy production scenario. The combination of small-scale wind and solar generation makes it possible to overcome the individual limitations of the two technologies. We believe these well-dimensioned systems can transform a mere energy consumer into a producer-consumer. Consequently, we see a significant reduction in the cost and dependence on grid power. The results of this pilot will allow us to validate our technology and the feasibility of the business model, which can be replicated in other applications in Matosinhos.

Asked about the reasons that led to the partnership between Windcredible and ALADI, Filipe Fernandes says that the motivation to help was enormous. “The rationale is simple. Our pilots are functional; instead of installing them in labs, why not install them where they are most needed? Supporting institutions like ALADI fill our hearts! There is no better feeling than helping those who support the most vulnerable people in our society, especially in the difficult days that society is going through. This is in our DNA, and we will always do our best to achieve a fair energy transition and leave no one behind.

Windcredible participated in the initiative “IN. STARTUP” of Colmeia, which challenged  startups with energy transition solutions to develop and optimize their value proposition to the Matosinhos community.

The distinction was awarded on Tuesday, December 12, in the Noble Hall of the Municipality of Matosinhos.
