UPTEC and Arda Academy award projects in the music industry
UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto and Arda Academy, a training academy focused on music production and post-production, have awarded four incubation prizes to innovative projects in the world of music.
Presented by students from Arda Academy’s Music Business and Studio Engineering courses, the winning projects of the first edition of this collaborative initiative range from the creation of an independent studio to the organisation of listening parties and musical events in the city of Porto.
The Music on Music project aims to create encounters dedicated to active listening, debate, and celebration of the national and international music scene. Between listening sessions, conversations with artists, and events in unexpected spaces such as auditoriums, gardens, and churches, the initiative aims to bring audiences, professionals, and fans together, promoting critical thinking and the sharing of experiences.
Created by a DJ and curator with Palestinian roots, the Zamaan project is an artistically and politically conscious platform that connects music, memory, and resistance. Focused on giving a stage to queer and racialized artists from Southeast Asia, North Africa, and the diaspora, the initiative combines cultural programming, training, and the creation of safe spaces.
Estúdio 401, on the other hand, was born out of the need to break down barriers to professional recording for independent artists. Founded by musicians, the space functions as a recording, rehearsal, and mentoring center, offering affordable services without compromising quality. In addition to the technical aspect, they want to promote live sessions, cultural events, and competitions that give visibility to new bands.
The last winners, Bastonada, are a new electropunk band from Porto, bringing together musicians from different backgrounds to create a sound that mixes electronic, punk, progressive, and noise. The first step is to release their debut EP and perform live in iconic venues in the city of Porto, with goals ranging from a national tour to international appearances.
Thanks to the award, the four projects will have the opportunity to be incubated at UPTEC, in addition to benefiting from mentoring, business plan support, and access to UPTEC’s network of events and partnerships.
