Seedsight raises nearly €2 million to combat agrifood waste

Deeptech startup Seedsight, incubated at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, has successfully completed a new €1.78 million investment round. The capital raised will enable the commercial and operational development of its technology, aimed at the agri-food industry.

Seedsight has created an online data library containing the digital signatures of various types of seeds and cereal grains, validated through low-cost, large-scale biomolecular and biophysical analyses. This platform, based on optical sensors and Artificial Intelligence, enables farmers, cooperatives and mills to make smarter, faster and safer decisions across the entire cereal value chain, whether it is adjusting the procurement time of the best cereals on the market, negotiating fairer prices or maintaining consistent quality standards. Through the platform, it is possible to optimise the identification of the best species, origins and suppliers of seeds and grains at the most competitive prices, avoiding agrifood waste.

By incorporating transparency directly into the decision-making process, Seedsight, a spinoff from INESCTEC, enables a more competitive and equitable market. On the one hand, small farmers and aggregators gain access to information that was previously beyond their reach, enabling them to compete better and meet the demands of increasingly quality-oriented markets. At the same time, traders and milling companies can benefit from reliable verification at 10% of traditional costs.

“This investment is a strong recognition of our core vision: to transform the entire cereal value chain”, says Joana Paiva, CEO of Seedsight. “We will significantly accelerate the digitisation of grain quality assessment, empowering all partners, from farmers to food processors, to make faster, data-driven decisions that reduce food waste”, she adds. The startup aims to train more than 100 farmers, through a network of cooperatives and key producers, in digital tools, quality assessment and commercial optimisation over the next three years.

This year, Seedsight was also selected as one of the 12 finalists for the Innovation Radar 2025 Award, alongside some of Europe’s most innovative deeptech startups, representing the Smart Hardware & Robotics category.

The investment round, led by 3xP Global, was accompanied by current investors Techstars and HBG Ventures GmbH, as well as the entry of new investor Generation-Re Syndicate. In 2024, the startup had already secured €1 million in European and national funds and awards, to which it now adds the current investment round worth €1.78 million.
