Plantz gets a 10,000 euro prize as the winner of the “From Start-to-Table” programme

With the prize, Plantz will increase production capacity and product availability: 100% plant-based deep-frozen meals.

Plantz, a company currently incubated at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of University of Porto, has just won Startup Lisboa’s “From Start-to-Table” acceleration programme in the New Sustainable Food & Beverage Products category. With this distinction, Plantz gets a 10,000 euro award, an investment that the company will use to increase the production capacity and availability of its products: 100% plant-based deep-frozen meals.

Plantz aims to make plant-based food convenient and accessible, with a commitment to health, the environment and animal welfare. The startup offers practical and healthy meals via its website, using deep-freezing technology to preserve each meal’s nutrients and good texture. Reducing the environmental impact of the food industry is also one of the main focuses of the company incubated at UPTEC.

The company already has 800 direct customers (B2C), more than 50% of whom are repeat customers, and, in the HoReCa channel (B2C), they are present in a network of more than 40 restaurants. In 2024, Plantz, together with the Nabeiro Group, intends to focus its offer on the HoReCa channel to develop clients and projects in the area, place some of its products in department stores, and invest in the growth of e-commerce.

The projects involved in “From Star-to-Table” spent seven weeks working on validating the product in the Portuguese market, mentoring and integrating with representatives from the food and catering ecosystem. With this victory, Plantz also has the opportunity to incubate for six months at Startup Lisboa, thus also operating in the country’s capital.

From Start-to-Table is an acceleration programme linked to the restaurant and food tech ecosystem created by Startup Lisboa in 2018. With the support of Turismo de Portugal, this international programme has already contributed to the acceleration of 135 startups and delivered more than 17 million euros for investment by the companies.
