DRU – Democratic Roles of Universities

The project aims to find new ways to strengthen democracy through universities, aligning with the goals of the European Education Area. It responds to the European Union’s concerns about the weakening of democratic values, promoting higher education institutions that are more inclusive, connected to their communities, and committed to democratic practices in everyday life. The DRU consortium brings together universities and non-academic organisations from Europe, South Africa, and Australia, fostering mutual learning about the role of universities in supporting democracy, particularly in areas such as the inclusion of refugee students and local civic participation.
