€2 million European project enlists UPTEC startup to combat cyber attacks
NovaForensic, a startup incubated at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, is participating in the European TreatChase project, a cybersecurity initiative focused on combating phishing attacks – one of the most common and dangerous forms of cybercrime. In these attacks, cybercriminals disguise themselves as trusted entities to deceive victims and trick them into sharing sensitive information, such as passwords, bank details, or credit card numbers.
Created in 2021, NovaForensic was born from its founder’s experience as a criminal investigator, with the aim of addressing gaps in the field of digital forensics. The company wants to establish itself as a national and international benchmark in digital data recovery and technological criminal investigation.
The TreatChase project aims to develop an innovative platform that makes it easier and more effective to prevent and respond to phishing attacks, contributing to a more widespread adoption of cybersecurity solutions in Europe. This digital platform will primarily consist of a data collector, responsible for gathering and organizing information about phishing attempts, facilitating threat research and analysis. It will also include a detection and analysis module, which will identify and analyze attack attempts, helping to track and understand phishing patterns, and a mitigation and notification service, which will enable victims to be alerted and protected quickly, minimizing the impact of attacks.
All these services will be accessible through an intuitive interface for both users and developers, allowing integration with other tools and platforms. The goal is for the UPTEC community, as well as users in general, to benefit from this service and, above all, to participate in the project by testing the platform that will be developed soon.
NovaForensic will play a central role in the communication, dissemination, and practical validation of the TreatChase platform through practical testing with end users (alpha testers) and real use cases, particularly in the area of digital criminal investigation. The funding allocated to the startup for the project is around €200,000, part of a total budget of more than €2 million, co-financed by the European Union.
