CREA wins Platinum award at the Architecture & Design Collection Awards 2023

CREA Black Box House 1 edit

The architecture studio incubated at UPTEC stood out in the Residential Architecture and Design category with the “Black Box House” project

The CREA architecture studio, incubated at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, was honoured with the Platinum Award in the Architecture and Residential Design category of the Architecture & Design Collection Awards 2023 for the “Black Box House” project, carried out in Maia.

This project, completed in 2022, is part of a hybrid environment that balances the urban sprawl and rurality of the place, considering the coexistence of three generations of the same family, representing a unique architectural narrative, where the formal sobriety of its monolithic façade contrasts with the fluidity and openness of its interior spaces orientated towards the courtyard and garden, integrating harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.

The team responsible for the architectural project consisted of CREA architects André Camelo and Bruno Soares, as well as architects Teresa Osório, Carina Gomes, and Rita Correia. Cerne Projects was responsible for the engineering.

Since it was founded in 2014, CREA has established itself as one of Porto’s leading architecture studios, standing out for its commitment to sustainability and the restoration of buildings, reinterpreting and adapting them for today. The studio in UPTEC Baixa has already completed numerous projects of different scales and complexity, demonstrating its commitment to excellence and innovation.

The Architecture & Design Collection awards aim to inspire designers, architects, construction workers and engineers to share their best projects with the world, promoting global recognition and inspiring future generations. The jury considered all the characteristics of each project, with scores awarded according to three main criteria: innovation and originality, design and aesthetic appearance, and functionality and spatial integration. Each criterion was scored from 0 to 100.
