CREA — Architects among the leading architecture studios in the Iberian Peninsula

The CREA – Arquitetos architecture studio, based at UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, was considered one of the leaders in Portugal and Spain in 2025 by the magazine Arquitetura Plus. For over 20 years, the annual publication has highlighted the most prominent studios in the Iberian Peninsula.

CREA was founded in 2014 by André Camelo as a studio focused on projects of varying scales, with an emphasis on collective housing and social facilities, based on the pillars of sustainability, circularity, and shared use.

Among the studio’s notable projects is the renovation of the University Stadium in Porto, completed in November 2024. The renovation, designed by CREA, included the restoration of the grandstand building, the redesign of the changing rooms, and the construction of two new buildings, including the new headquarters of CDUP-UP. The new stadium was also awarded an Honourable Mention in the Architecture Masterprize, an international architecture award that recognises excellence in design, creativity, and innovation in architecture.

Also in 2024, the renovation project for the Correios Primary School in Porto was completed.  The aim of the intervention was to reorganise the available space and integrate a new programme, with the aim of improving the relationship between the existing building and a new volume, where the multipurpose hall and library are located.

In terms of future projects, the ɣ Building, currently under construction on the campus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, stands out. The new space will include a cafeteria, a restaurant area, and an events room: ‘the approach to the project was based on the integration of sustainability principles, design for shared and community use, and structural standardisation to reduce construction times,’ says André Camelo, founder of CREA.
