The training programme created by Cachupa Creative Studio, which starts at the beginning of May, is aimed at social impact organisations.

On 4 and 5 May, UPTEC Asprela I will host the 2nd edition of the Communication for Impact Workshops. After a successful debut at the end of last year, the initiative designed by Cachupa Creative Studio, a startup incubated at UPTEC — Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, returns to Porto to help organisations belonging to the impact ecosystem improve their communication in various ways.

There will be two days and a total of 30 hours of intensive face-to-face training, during which resources will be made available to develop effective and coherent communication strategies to increase the reach and social impact generated by these organisations’ work.

The initiative came about after the design and multimedia studio realised that, although there are thousands of social impact organisations in Portugal (a study carried out in 2020 by CASES and INE pointed to more than 73,000), most people recognise the work and purpose of very few. Cachupa Creative Studio is trying to bridge this gap by empowering organisations with tools to make them stand out in the ecosystem.

“We know that a lot of organisations around the country are doing work with a significant impact. Unfortunately, many don’t have the resources to invest in communication or don’t even recognise the importance of doing so. It was precisely for these organisations that we created the Communication for Impact Workshops, believing that the way forward lies, in a way, in empowering them so that, as well as being able to publicise their work effectively, they can, as a consequence, boost its reach and impact. We had excellent feedback on the initiative’s debut, which is why we’re now launching the second edition in Porto, full of good expectations and hoping to soon expand to other locations and increase our area of operation, helping even more organisations,” says Pedro Fragoso Lopes, CEO of Cachupa Creative Studio.

“Most social impact organisations have few financial and human resources to work on quality communication and often recruit profiles that must be very flexible and streamline various tasks. Therefore, obtaining training in this very specialised area of communication for impact is a way of enabling the organisation internally to improve its communication strategy and even, in some way, align it with its goals and objectives, or its long-term positioning plans,” says Helena Antónia Silva, Founder of Vintage for a Cause and participant in the 1st edition of the Communication for Impact Workshops.

Impact communication workshops aim to make communication more accessible

The workshop programme will include sessions on the importance of communication for impact, what to communicate, who to speak to, and where to communicate, as well as inspiring testimonies. It will end with the construction and presentation of a pitch and a sunset/networking session. Of the 30-hour programme, 24 will be dedicated to training sessions with a theoretical and practical component, and six will be focused on individual mentoring sessions.

Registration for the Communication for Impact Workshops, organised by Cachupa Creative Studio, is open until 30 April at www.cachupa.pt/oficinas. The capacity is limited to 32 participants. Individual registrations cost €180 + VAT, while group registrations cost €340 + VAT.

The organisation also leaves the door open to companies that want to fund this initiative for participants, thus supporting the construction of a more conscious and inclusive society. This will help decentralise impact communication and make it more accessible to all those who make a difference.
