The Biotechnology Center of the Park of Science and Technology of University of Porto (UPTEC BIO) aims at the promotion and validation of business oriented projects, based on the knowledge and skills generated within the University of Porto, and also resulting from the cooperation between University, Industry and Private Businesses. To do so, UPTEC offers a range of equipment and technological infrastructure that will promote the development and accelerate their projects.

The strategy also involves the installation of innovation centers (national and international) oriented to the development of new products and services to market, based on technology and knowledge transfer, working with the incorporation of highly qualified and skilled human resources.

At present, this cluster hosts two Innovation Centers, however it plans to integrate a larger number of start-ups and spin-offs related to biotechnology and health at the opening of its dedicated incubator.

Like other centers, the location takes decisive role, since it ties the University campuses of Asprela and Campo Alegre, where some of the most relevant schools and institutes for R&D (in the areas of technology and biotechnology) are located (Faculty of Sciences, IBMC / INEB, etc.).
